Go Purple for Prevention! Campaign
October is child abuse prevention and awareness month and Boost is launching its 7th annual Go Purple for Prevention! Campaign. The campaign is held each year to raise awareness and provide education to prevent abuse and violence in the lives of children and youth. Boost is very excited to be partnering with the Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, University of Guelph-Humber once again, to raise awareness of child abuse.
"Boost believes that child abuse can be prevented by educating adults about how to keep kids safe and by teaching children how to get help when needed," said Karyn Kennedy, Executive Director of Boost. "The Go Purple for Prevention! Campaign was developed to reach out to parents, caregivers and educators to be proactive about recognizing high risk situations."
The Go Purple for Prevention! Campaign is an important opportunity for schools, organizations, businesses and individuals to participate and promote the need for child abuse awareness and prevention. Each year in Canada , thousands of children and youth are affected by violence and abuse. We believe that through education and prevention, we all can make a difference.
Keeping children safe is everyone's responsibillity. The Go Purple for Prevention! Campaign held every October, is an opportunity for every community, individual, school, child care centre, college and university, business and government to get involved. There are so many ways to get involved!
PLAN A GO PURPLE! DAY AT YOUR SCHOOL OR OFFICE – rally your friends, colleagues and classmates to “go purple!” Take pictures of everybody dressed in purple and submit them to Boost so we can post them on our website.
HOLD A FUNDRAISER FOR BOOST – Every year, Boost produces Go Purple! promotional items. This year we have purple stress balls and Boost stainless steel water bottles. Sell these items during your Go Purple! day to raise money for our much needed programs and services.
READ EDUCATIONAL STORIES – Read children stories about safety and support. For example, you can read the “I’m a Great Little Kid!” series (available on our website; www.boostforkids.org).
IN DAYCARE CENTRES – Have the children draw a picture or write a story about how adults keep children safe. Share these stories with one another and have a discussion about healthy communication
BE CREATIVE – Come up with your own Go Purple! event. Don’t forget to share them with us and others.
